Did the approach trail after a night @ Hiker Hostel where a roommate was down with a cold so I picked it up. The eight mile approach trail including stairs with about 450 steps was hard, but very doable. The problem is that those eight miles do not count as part of the official trail!  I enjoyed the day while hiking with Globug, a 25 year old NOBO (North Bound) female hiker. Stopped @ Springer Shelter to show 0.2 official miles for the first day. Cooked and enjoyed the evening with a great crowd!
